This is not a finished card (or even close). I am trying to develop a prototype sketch for some holiday cards. I like the 3 ornaments and thought the card needed something in the upper left corner... So as far as the layout goes- would this be better without the snowflakes in the corner? PS I know my ornaments are missing hangers... they will be added in the next version. I'm trying to figure out if my center ornament is too heavy and just not working.
Here is an improved version, incorporating some of the great suggestions I received (thanks), but I have made an observation about myself: I simply HATE to make Christmas cards. While you would never know it at it- I spent 2 hours on that revised card- and I still don't like it much. but I learned something from the process-- I am going to stop kidding myself- I simply HATE the holidays.

I think you're right, the card does need something in the upper left hand corner. I like the snowflakes there. I also think that the center ornament should be just a little bit smaller because it takes up so much of the card.
If you're wanting to dress up the ornaments, you could add a strip of ribbon or card stock across the middle. It's not necessary, it's just an idea.
I like the snowflakes in the uppper corner, but I think the middle ornament does need to be a bit smaller and maybe make the sentiment a big larger.
I agree the center ornament is slightly too large. It may seem less so if the smaller ones are layered on top. I like the snow flakes, but maybe you won't need them when you put on the hooks.
I think some white space can be good. I read in a Cathy Zeiske book that balanced margins make for a cohesive design, so if you shrink the center, snug in the smaller ones, creating more uniform borders, the white space may feel more comfortable. HTH.
i agree with making the large ornament smaller and moving them closer together. i'm also wondering about putting just one of the snowflakes in the lower right corner...where your greeting is. The greeting needs to be larger if used at all. who says we need to put words on the front of every card??
I agree..the center ornament could be smaller, and maybe to balance the whole design, you could put two snowflakes in the upper left corner and one in the bottom right corner
Love the blue! I'm tired of red and green..last year I did some cards in pink and celadon
I haven't even thought about cards this year yet...I guess I should.
I don't think your larger ornament should be necessarily be reduced but I do feel you should remove the left smaller ornament and layer the right smaller ornament over and slightly to the right of the bigger ornament. 3 elements maximum should be the rule. I would add hooks and stamp the sentiment on a slim tag and hang it on to the hook of the smaller ornament. Other than that, I think your card looks fabulous!
I agree with putting 2 snowflakes in the top left and one in the bottom right, and I think you're right about the center ornament being too big. A smaller one would work better with the other 2. Maybe raise the center one on Pop Dots and ink around the edges for a little more dimension?
Love the blues - great colors!
I am intrigued by Maria's suggestion. Can't wait to see your reworked version.
I like Maureen's suggestion of popping the smaller ornaments up so they are over the larger one. I also like Maria's ideas. Please show us any new versions you come up with!
You hate the holidays?!?!? I thought *I* was the Queen of Bah, Humbug.
Maybe this is just not the right design for you. Try doing something else - it just might work! I do something wildly different every year, and I do not even celebrate Christmas!
