I love the idea of a monogram on this notepad holder but I just can't get it to work. I tried a solid olive too but it seemed blah.
So what kind of a monogram do I need- smaller? and should it be plain or patterned? And should it be somewhere other than the center?

It's a great idea, and I like the size. I think it just needs to be bolder in color.
What if the layer just under it was darker for contrast? Then the letter would kindof pop instead of blending in with the background.
I would use a solid color for the monogram, this way it would stand out.
I would combine Leslie and Flossie's ideas and make the letter a solid color as well as make it's "shadow" darker.
I agree with Leslie - the letter needs more contrast. The first card appears to have two letters - patterned mounted on white. The white layer could be olive or an even darker colour. Otherwise I would go with my favourite quick fix for adding a lift - gently sponging the edges of the letter with a darker colour, or even just swiping the edges with a dark/contrasting coloured inkpad - that still leaves the clean look that you have
The layer in between the background and the monogram needs to be a solid color to give your tablet the needed contrast. You were on the right tract. Your letter is fine the size and colors it is. Just change the inbetween to a solid and everything will go nicely.
How about some white on there? Either the layer in between, or the monogram, or the layer behind the monogram? White is usually the color that I tend to forget, but it can be very dramatic! can't wait to see what you come up with.

I was thinking a solid color and maybe dry embossing (i.e. cuttlebug embossing folder)to give it texture.
You need a tiny bit of black around the letters and that would make them pop. I use black all the time..hope this helps. 8^)
